Former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. says he will make his debut at 140 in March and then challenge IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchens for his belt in June or July.

Hitchens (19-0, 7 KOs) called the first One hit wonderKambosos Jr. (21-3, 10 KOs), following his 12-round split decision win over IBF 140-pound champion Liam Barrow last month on December 7. George doesn't deserve a world title shot unless we lower the bar on what a fighter needs to do to get a crack at the belt.

The new “Emperor's” target

“Emperor” Kambosos's position is that if Hitchens wants to fight, he'll accommodate him, but he says he views the New Yorker as a “bum” who hasn't “made any money.” Kambosos made a small fortune from his upset win over an injured and rusty Teofimo Lopez four years ago on November 27, 2021.

George beat Lopez by 12-round split decision, but has done very little since then, going 1-3 in the last four years. Kambosos' record must be 0-4 in his last four fights because his 12-round majority decision win over Maxie Hughes on July 22, 2023, was highly doubtful in the eyes of many fans.

“Yes, yes, I keep saying a million times. And he keeps saying, 'You don't sign a contract.' What contract? You want me. You're a champion, and you haven't made any money. You're a bum. You haven't done anything in this sport,” George Kambosos Jr. said. Except to win your last fight and win a world title.” Fighthypetalks about IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchens.

“This means nothing to me. I'm coming for you. I want to rip your head off, you want to make some money? Great, come get some money and I'll take this belt off you. A lot of people are calling me. I knew he'd jump on it. I knew I Under his skin I live in his head rent-free. I'm under his skin. I love being under these New Yorkers.

“I'm going to make my debut at 140 in March. It's not ready until June or July, and we're there. Right after March, we can do it the next month. We can do it the next day, no problem,” Kambosos said of his desire to Richardson Hitchens fight: 'I'm coming for this guy'.

Kambosos is getting ahead of himself. He still needs to win his 140-year-old debut in March before he has a chance to challenge Hitchens for the IBF title in June or July. If Kambosos' promoter Eddie Hearn were to play him against a decent opponent at the halfway point of March, he would certainly lose. That would leave George's dismal record at 1-4 in his last five fights. The thing is, he's not like a shotgun fighter. He was never good in the first place.

“It's no secret. Me and Barrow are going to have that big fight. I was going to do my job in March and then have that big match on the pitch. I'm such a big name “It was in the boxing world that Hitchens called me up the next day,” Kambosos said.

It must have been disappointing for Kambosos when he saw Liam Barrow defeated by Hitchens via a 12-round split decision in their fight on December 7 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. All that money Kambosos could have made against former IBF 140lb champion Barrow was gone with his loss to Hitchens, and won't come back.

“I will cut off his head”

“I'm just focused on getting better every day. I feel good at this weight and I'm doing great in March. I'm going to chop this guy's head off and then we'll go straight to Hitchens. He says certain things here and there. What am I worried about you? You're not a tenth Devin Haney You're not a tenth of Teofimo Lopez. “You're not a tenth of Lomachenko,” Kambosos said.

The only fighter out of those three that Kambosos Jr. defeated was Teofimo Lopez, whom he caught on a bad night after a long layoff in 2021. George has lost twice to Devin Haney and was knocked out by Vasiliy Lomachenko in his last fight on May 12, 2024. He has not fought since then. Kambosos is viewed as a shot fighter, but he was never viewed as a good fighter to begin with. So his repeated losses only show his level or lack thereof.
