Meek Mill posted a series of tweets on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, expressing his opinion on the recent media coverage surrounding the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson. He suggested how the case received more coverage than the children killed in his city of Philadelphia.
“100 kids get murdered in my hood, and the press is stuck on one CEO…..I will never understand it!” When someone gives me a challenge I will collect 1000 guns from the street in Philadelphia without snitching just helping clean up my community! I didn't come this far for the games! “Just pain and growth,” Meek Mill said.
Once his tweets went viral on social media, many netizens started sharing their reactions. One Instagram user, @TheNeighborhoodTalk, posted screenshots of his tweet to his account, to which another user responded and said:
“You only hate the Messenger…but the message is on point.”
Many other netizens also shared similar opinions.
Meek Mill's tweets were explored as the rapper spoke about being harassed by police when he legally bought a gun
In the wake of the recent shooting, Meek Mill also spoke out about how to buy a gun legally. He claimed he still faces harassment despite making legal purchases while illegal firearms are for sale.
“Guns are for sale by boat on the streets and I chose to buy from the store legally and I'm still being harassed like I'm buying guns for people… You don't even want to protect me and my family legally! Racism is latent in my state!” Meek Mill said.
He also mentioned:
“I've been to the range in different cities over 10 times but in Pennsylvania we had cops investigating me and wondering why I was buying guns! I killed 10 of my rap friends and they couldn't protect themselves! I'm working on my gun license, help me not get investigated The thing is, I'm not a backslider, you know!
In another tweet, Meek Mill also addressed cops' claims that the rapper “pointed firearms at them” and then went on to state how he “had to live as a criminal for years.”
Meek Mill's words received such attention that the Philadelphia Police Crime Map and Statistics recorded that approximately 244 homicides had occurred this year as of this writing. However, in another tweet, he spoke about the violent murder of the UnitedHealthcare CEO and wrote: “Peace be upon this CEO too, his life matters too.”
Meek Mill, on the other hand, criticized the media twice this week, taking to X to express his concerns about how the media is framing the rapper. Jay Z and Diddy. He claimed that “the goal is to start a false narrative” and then criticized the American media as “programming.” The media has not yet responded to any of the rapper's tweets.
