Liverpool vs Manchester United is always a game that gets the pulse racing.
For fans of both clubs, it is arguably the biggest match on their respective calendars β yes, bigger than the Merseyside and Manchester derbies in a footballing sense β and for neutrals, it is a match that always has you on the edge of your seat.
The first installment of 2025 certainly lived up to the bill, from the moment the skies decided to hit a mountainous pile of snow in the Northwest. There was a lot of travel chaos and some doubt about whether or not the game would actually go ahead, and fortunately for everyone watching in person, at home and around the world, it did.
Here's what an eventful 90 minutes was like and some in the world of social media…

Liverpool's impressive start to the season owes a lot to the performances of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Jacobo, Virgil Fa…well, everyone who has donned the club's famous red.
One player the club has really missed in recent weeks, despite maintaining his strong performances on the pitch, is centre-back Ibrahima Konate. The Frenchman has developed a really strong and effective partnership with Virgil van Dijk, with many seeing him as the catalyst for all the great things that happen on the pitch.
So it was no surprise that when news broke that he was starting, Konate's name was the toast of X.
Curtis Jones and Alexis McAllister were consistently impressive for Liverpool, really thriving under Arne Slott, but Ryan Gravenberch was perhaps the best in midfield.
The Dutchman has been a fringe figure under Jurgen Klopp, leading many to speculate that his Liverpool career will go nowhere, but his impressive composure on the ball has impressed throughout the 2024/25 season.
Against United, Gravenberch continued his merry way, putting in another impressive performance against the duo of Kobe Maino and Manuel Ugarte – who were far better than they have been at any other time this season.
The first 45 minutes saw a goal from Ruben Amorim united They produced a brilliant turnaround β stifling Liverpool's attacking play while creating problems of their own.
The Reds had chances, yes, with Jackpo shooting wide after playing in behind, but United were more than just in possession and looked more than capable of capitalizing on a bad day in Trent Alexander-Arnold's defensive office.
Most of their threats came from the left flank and they should have taken the lead in the first half through Rasmus Hoglund, but the Dane's weak shot was easily blocked by Alisson.
Seven minutes into the second half, an unlikely hero showed Hoglund how it should be done…
Liverpool's slot team has not had it their own way this season, sometimes finding it difficult to break teams down. But with the amount of quality they possess, it is not at all surprising that they will find a way back thanks to individual quality.
McAllister's brilliant pass found Jacopo, and the Dutchman showed his class once again as he fired a stunning shot past Andre Onana.
Wherever Matthijs de Ligt goes, handballs tend to follow him.
Unfortunately, this proved to be the case once again as a stray arm allowed Mohamed Salah the opportunity to convert from the penalty spot…
Will Salah keep his calm and maintain his impressive goalscoring record against Manchester United?
You may know the answer to this question.
While Salah is inevitable LiverpoolUnited fans are starting to feel the same way about Amad Diallo in big matches.
The Ivorian scored the famous winner as United beat Liverpool 4-3 in the FA Cup last season, and his latest goal helped the Red Devils to a famous win over Manchester City just a few weeks ago.
So when the chance came Amad's way after Alejandro Garnacho exploited more space on the left, there was only one outcome…
The stats will tell you that the game was largely even, with Liverpool having 19 shots to 13, six of which were on target compared to United's four.
the Premier League The xG leaders were also significantly better than United's, but it could have been Amorim's side who came away with all three points had Harry Maguire not slotted home from 12 yards with seconds left.
Substitute Joshua Zirkzee looked like he was on the verge of offside as he slipped in behind Andy Robertson, but his pass to Maguire wasn't the best as it passed towards the England defender. As a result, he was unable to control his effort, and shot high over the crossbar while the X-Users clutched their collective cheeks.
It's a tough game and Amorim will take a lot of it away.
