RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) – About 163 workers were found in slavery-like conditions at a construction site belonging to the automaker BYD in the Brazilian state of Bahia, labor authorities said during a press conference on Monday.
According to authorities, workers were working long hours, beyond what Brazilian law allows, and were kept in degrading conditions in their accommodations, among other labor violations.
BYD did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
