Liverpool manager Arne Slott will not be in the technical area when his side visit Southampton in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday (8pm GMT).

The Reds can take another step closer to a first title under the Dutchman when they take on the bottom side in the Premier League.

Slott led his new club to the top of the Championship after his first 15 league games, two points and a game in hand over second-placed Chelsea.

Here's why the 46-year-old will serve his sentence at St Mary's and what the former Feyenoord coach had to say about the situation.

When is Arne Slot suspended?

The Southampton match will be the only match Slott will miss as part of a one-match ban following Liverpool's 2-2 home draw with Fulham.

He will be hoping to return to the semi-finals, should the Carabao Cup holders beat rivals who lost 5-0 at home to Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.

It means Slott will be on the sidelines again when Liverpool head to Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday (4.30pm).

The Carabao Cup tie will go straight to penalties if it ends in a draw, with extra time only being used in the semi-finals and final.

Liverpool defeated two teams from the English Premier League to reach the quarter-finals, defeating its guest West Ham 5-1 and then beating Brighton & Hove Albion 3-2.

Why was Arne Slot suspended?

“There were a few moments where I could have gotten a yellow card,” Slott said after receiving a yellow card for his reaction to Curtis Jones’ warning after a strong tackle on Alex Iwobi at Anfield.

Liverpool lost left-back Andy Roberton to a straight red card after 17 minutes and twice came from behind to salvage a point.

He added: “It is an emotional match and we were behind.” “It's frustrating. It's good to see our performance after so many setbacks.”

Sloat was suspended for three warnings because he also received a yellow card during his team's 2-1 win over visiting Chelsea on October 20 and the 2-2 draw with Arsenal on October 27.
