(Reuters) – The White House on Wednesday summarized the broad crackdown launched this week by US President Donald Trump on the US-Mexico border.
Trump took office on Monday and issued a raft of executive orders aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration and advancing his goal of deporting millions of immigrants who are in the United States illegally. He made immigration a major issue in his election campaign last year.
On Wednesday, the White House released a fact sheet related to the order that Trump signed on Monday, his first day in office. No additional order was signed Wednesday.
“President Trump is using every means of his executive authority to secure our country’s borders,” White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt said in an interview with Fox News. “This is the first promise he made to the American people during his campaign.” Wednesday.
