South Korea voted to impeach its acting president, Han Dak-soo, two weeks after Parliament voted to impeach its president, Yoon Suk-yul.
There were noisy scenes in the National Assembly after the Speaker of Parliament announced that only 151 votes out of 300 would be needed to pass the impeachment bill, compared to the 200 votes needed to impeach President Yoon.
Lawmakers from the ruling Pakistan People's Party, led by Yoon Wuhan, gathered around the parliament speaker's chair in protest and boycotted the vote.
A total of 192 lawmakers voted to impeach Han.
Prime Minister Han assumed the position after Parliament impeached President Yoon following his failed attempt to impose martial law on December 3.
But opposition lawmakers accused Han of refusing to appoint judges for Yoon's impeachment trial, effectively stalling the proceedings.
Han has agreed to step down, meaning Finance Minister Choi Sang-mook will become acting president.
