Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin called the media Like her own paper For trying to appeal to “MAGA readers” after the election.
Opinion columnist joined anti-Trump pundit George Conway at an event in 92NY Center for Culture and Arts on December 15 to talk about the results of the 2024 elections, which saw President-elect Donald Trump win a second term.
After what she claimed were multiple examples of the media capitulating to Trump since then, Rubin singled out her own newspaper for its desire to connect with Trump voters.
“People ask me all the time, ‘Why is the media so boring?’ There are two explanations,” Rubin began. “The first is that they're convinced that if they move a little to the right, all the MAGA readers out there — now, you'll notice the contradiction in terminology, 'MAGA readers' — will pick up The Washington Post, and they'll have more readers. What's the logical fallacy here? Yes. “There's nothing the Washington Post can do that will get these people to subscribe, but I'm convinced they're out there somewhere.”

Although Rubin has frequently criticized The Washington Post, especially its owner Jeff Bezos, for trying to become more politically neutral, she has made no effort to resign in protest and has even joked about rebellion from within the paper.
“I can be a rebel in my own home because now the mainstream media, as we talked about, is kind of giving up, so I can thumb my nose,” Robin joked.
She also denounced claims that she is politically biased, saying: “I think I'm not biased at all. I'm just minute. Killer minute.”
After Bezos announced in November that The Washington Post would no longer be Presidential approval procedureRubin was one of many columnists who attacked Bezos for “bending the knee.”
“First of all, I don't think the reason was stated. I don't think they suddenly decided — they suddenly decided that we should support everyone except the presidential candidates, and of all elections, this is the one we should start with,” Robin said on the special podcast. It has: “This new policy.” We endorsed a presidential candidate in 2020, no problem. “I recognize that, and even if it was not intentional, it is inevitably seen as kneeling down to Donald Trump at the worst possible moment when democracy is at stake.”
Rubin also criticized MSNBCShe is working as a contributor, after the “Morning Joe” co-hosts reportedly met with Trump after the election.

“What were they thinking? Who do they think their audience was?” Robin asked. “Well, maybe it wasn't about their fans. Maybe they were trying to defend themselves or avoid the retaliation they thought was coming their way. But in reality, these are rich, famous people. What do they have to worry about? It was just a terrible example of how careful they are.” Many elites kowtow to gain support, distract, and deflect attention from any kind of incoming criticism that might come their way from the White House.
