If Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fight this year in 2025, who will win?
The rivalry between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has been around for years, but it has only existed outside the ring and in theory. Once upon a time, Fury was the WBC and world heavyweight champion, and Joshua was the unified IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion, and the expectation was that these two would have an inevitable showdown for undisputed supremacy at heavyweight. But that never happened.
Right now, both Fury and Joshua are showing signs of decline. Joshua has a 6-4 record over his last 10 fights, which includes a loss to Andy Ruiz Jr., two losses to reigning heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk, and most recently being destroyed by Daniel Dubois. Fury is coming off back-to-back losses, the only two of his professional career, both against Usyk. In the end, neither Fury nor Joshua have proven that they are the best in this era. Instead, it was Oleksandr Usyk who conquered the division, and he did so in very impressive fashion, becoming the first undisputed world heavyweight champion of the modern four-belt era after his first two victories against Fury.
As far as Usyk is concerned, the next most logical opponent for him would be the winner of the upcoming fight between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker. However, the winner of that fight could have a chance at a much bigger payday than he would have against Usyk if he instead defends against Fury, or especially Joshua. Barring that, assuming the winner of Dubois-Parker faces Usyk next, a fight between Fury and AJ would make a lot of sense for both Fury and Joshua.
The fact of the matter is that even though neither of them are champions, and even though both are past their best, a fight between Fury and Joshua remains an intriguing prospect with lasting legacy implications for both heavyweights. It will also undoubtedly remain a huge event as both fighters will be in line to make a lot of money.
