Virgil van Dijk said he is not listening to any talk about the possibility of Liverpool achieving a quadruple this season despite the Reds' impressive first half of the season.

Arne Slott's side beat Tottenham 6-3 on Sunday and are currently top of the Premier League and Champions League table, as well as in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

It has been a strong start to life under Slott, but the Liverpool captain insists he will not get too carried away at this stage of the season.

After the 6-3 victory over Tottenham, the Dutchman said: “Are you talking about a quadruple in this case?” Well, I think I've already given answers so many times that we don't think about what will happen in May. We want to be there in May, but we've seen how difficult it is.

“But, listen, we're focused on what's ahead of us and that's the only thing. I'm not going to get involved in any conversation about the possibility of winning a title, or two, or three, or four.

“It's all about being present in every game we have. At the moment, there was a difficult game with Tottenham, but we had a very good game. Then comes Leicester City, which is the only team we have an influence on as well.

However, Van Dijk, whose current contract at Anfield is set to expire in the summer, was not surprised by the run in which they have lost just once in all competitions this season.

“No (we didn't surprise ourselves),” Van Dijk said.

“Yes, obviously, I think there has only been one addition to the squad in terms of Federico (Chiesa), and this group of players has been playing together for a long time.

“The experience is there, the quality is there, I saw that every day.

“It's obviously a surprise that there's a big change with Jurgen (Klopp) replacing the new coach, and there will always be question marks, but I still have so much confidence in my team that we can definitely compete for the championship.” Moment, at the top of the Premier League at least. So we have to stay consistent.”

Regarding the status of his contract with Liverpool, Van Dijk added: “There is no deadline at all.

“I will see what the future holds. I am fully focused on Leicester.”
