Marcus Rashford has dismissed as “ridiculous” reports claiming he met with a leading sports agency in a bid to help push through a move away from Manchester United this month.

Multiple media outlets have reported that the 27-year-old striker has held talks with Steeler, the same agency that helped facilitate Gareth Bale's £86m move to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.

Rashford is currently represented by his brother, Dwayne Maynard, but reports claimed he was willing to join the Steelers to help secure the move.

However, the England player responded to the speculation in an Instagram post: “A lot of false stories have been written over the last few weeks, but it's getting ridiculous guys – I've never met any agency and they have no plans to.”

Uncertainty grew over Rashford's future at Old Trafford after he told journalist Henry Winter in an interview last month that he was ready to “take on a new challenge”.

The striker has been absent from four consecutive matchdays after being left out of the Manchester derby by Ruben Amorim, but returned to the team as an unused substitute in the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle on Monday.

However, the United boss insisted after the match that there was no ulterior motive for leaving Rashford on the bench.

“I think about the team,” Amorim said. “You think a lot about Marcus. I think about the team. When I'm there I don't make a point. I just want to win the game.

“And you can feel it. I'm talking about the idea and the battle for relegation. Do I want to make a point during the game? No, I just want to win the game.”
