In a somewhat unexpected move, Trevo Chalupa returns to ChelseaWith the end of his loan period to Crystal Palace.
This is according to the update from The athlete This morning, Chalupa is now expected to return and play a key role in Enzo Maresca's squad for the rest of the season.
Chalupa had a mixed career at Stamford Bridge, where he sometimes played regularly and performed well, but was also completely outside the first-team picture at times.
A loan move to Palace in the summer would have made sense for Chalupa, but now it appears he is back and set to play his part for the Blues in the second half of the season.
In The Athletic article, Liam Twomey describes Chalupa's return as an “unexpected opportunity” for the 25-year-old.
Trevo Chalupa returns to Chelsea in an unexpected deal
“This is the latest development in a turbulent few months for Trevo Chalupa, who had every reason to believe his Chelsea career was over when he joined Palace on a season-long loan in August,” Tommy wrote in the article.
“Chelsea made it quite clear throughout last summer that he would not be in manager Enzo Maresca's plans for this season, as he was left out of the squad for the pre-season tour, stripped of his squad number and assigned to train with the so-called 'Bomb Squad'.
“Chalupa has responded by making a positive impact at Palace, and the changed circumstances at Stamford Bridge have now given him an unexpected opportunity to re-establish his value for Chelsea in the absence of Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile due to injury.”
It will be interesting to see what kind of impact Chalupa can have for CFC now, while Mark Guehi's situation will certainly be something to watch.
Guehi has also been considered by Chelsea While they are considering a call-up for Chalupa, it remains to be seen whether the west Londoners will attempt both deals.
Palace would certainly not be prepared to sell an important defensive player after they lost Chalupa's presence in their squad.
