Aston Villa manager Unai Emery was pleased with the fight his players showed in the win over West Ham in the FA Cup.

The Villans found themselves 1-0 down early through Lucas Paqueta's strike, but they showed resilience in the second half to turn the tie in their favour.

Amadou Onana equalized in the 71st minute, before Morgan Rogers scored the winning goal five minutes later.

Overall, the Spaniard was happy but also said there was room for improvement after conceding an early goal again.

He said: “Said, but we were trying to set a goal not to concede an easy goal, but we did that early again.

“But we responded well. We didn't concede any chances again one way or another. The players showed our desire to do something in the competition.

He added: “We concede a lot of goals, but our most important goal is to win.

“We're trying to be strong here, to have a fortress. We did what we've done all season. We responded well and more or less controlled the game.

“Of course it is very important which team we face after today. But now we are focused, because we are participating in three competitions and we want to achieve something in the Champions League, the Premier League and now the FA Cup.”

Matchwinner Morgan Rogers put out a statement of intent in his post-match interview.

It is believed that the club is capable of winning the famous title and putting an end to its drought.

“A little bit more faith, we were a little more patient. There was a little more forward thinking,” Rogers said.

“We created chances, more chaos in the final third, hence our goals.

“We know we can come back against any team. We will look to correct the start of the games, but we are happy with the way we finished the games.

“Why can't we win it? Anything can happen in a cup competition. You don't know who you'll draw, where you'll play.”
