Investing.com – British shares rose after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the stock sector led shares higher.
At the close in London, the index rose by 0.43%.
Among the best performers of the day were Airtel Africa Plc (LON:), which rose 2.68%, or 2.91 points, to trade at 111.51 at the close. Meanwhile, PERSHING SQUARE HOLDINGS LIMITED (LON:) continued to rise by 2.23% or 84.00 points and closed at 3,844.00. B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:) rose 2.17% or 7.80 points to 365.60 at the end of the session.
As for the weakest performer at the end of today’s trading, Vistry Group PLC (LON:) shares closed down 16.06%, or 105.00 points, and traded at 549.00 levels at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:) fell 2.40% or 29.00 points to 1,188.00. Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:) was down 1.47% or 1.80 points at 120.30.
The number of advancing shares outnumbered the declining shares on the London Stock Exchange by 1,087 shares, reaching 518 shares, and 135 shares closed unchanged.

Gold futures for February delivery rose 0.11% or 2.99 and closed at $2,631.19 per ounce. As for trading in other commodities, the price of crude oil contracts for February delivery rose 1.34%, or 0.93, and reached a price of $70.17 per barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.20%, or 0.87, and closed at $73.19 per barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged by 0.04% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP was unchanged by 0.04% to 0.83.
US dollar index futures rose 0.17% to 108.00.
