Two people were killed and 18 others were injured after a small plane crashed into a commercial building in Southern California, officials said.

Ten people were taken to the hospital with injuries, the Fullerton Police Department said in a post on X on Thursday afternoon. Eight others were treated for their injuries and released at the scene.

The single-engine RV-10 crashed at 14:15 PT (20:15 GMT), according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Officials did not provide further details about how the accident occurred. It is unclear whether the two people who died were workers or were on board the plane.

Police said they were evacuating buildings in the area, and asking the public to stay away from the accident site.

Congressman Lou Correa, who represents the Orange County area, near Los Angeles, said the building that was bombed was a furniture manufacturing company.

In a post on X, Correa said at least a dozen of the victims were factory workers.

Aerial photos of the scene show parts of the plane inside the building.

This is the second plane to crash in the region in the past two months, according to CBS, the BBC's partner in the US.

On November 25, another plane crashed about a block away from this latest incident. No injuries were reported in this accident.
