President-elect Trump made the announcement on Sunday callista Gingrich, Wife of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives newt Gingrich, As one of his latest nominees for US Ambassador.
Trump wrote on the Truth Social website that he chose Gingrich to serve as US ambassador to Switzerland, citing her previous experience as an ambassador in his first administration. Gingrich and other ambassadorial nominees will need approval by the US Senate.
“Happily married to the great Newt Gingrich, Calista previously served, “With distinction, as my ambassador to the Holy See. During her tenure, Callista worked to promote and defend international religious freedom, combat human trafficking, and provide humanitarian assistance around the world,” Trump's post read.
“Calista graduated with honors from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 1988,” the Republican leader added. “Congratulations!”
Trump later wrote that he had nominated Mauricio Claver-Carone as US special envoy for Latin America. Special envoy positions differ from ambassador roles, in that they are shorter and typically aimed at accomplishing a specific mission.
Trump referred to “chaos and anarchy” at the southern US border in his announcement about Claver-Carone.
“It is time to restore order in our hemisphere,” Trump wrote. “Mauricio knows the region, and how to put America's interests first.”

“He also knows the terrible threats we face from mass illegal immigration and fentanyl,” he added. “As Special Envoy of the State Department, Mauricio will work tirelessly to protect the American people,” he added.
In a third post, Trump appointed Ken Howery, co-founder of PayPal, to be the US ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark. Howery previously served as US ambassador to Sweden, and Trump wrote that he “served our citizens brilliantly” in that role.
“As a co-founder of PayPal and the venture capital fund, Founders Fund, Ken has turned American innovation and technology leadership into global success stories, and this experience will be invaluable in representing us abroad,” Trump explained. “For the purposes of national security and freedom around the world, the United States of America feels that ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity… Thank you, Ken, and congratulations!”
