President-elect Donald Trump He congratulated and thanked Florida State Representative Hillary Cassel after the representative from the Sunshine State announced her decision to abandon her affiliation with the Democratic Party and join the Republican Party.

Cassel's announcement came after his colleague Florida State Rep. Susan Valdes announced earlier this month that she would switch her registration from Democrat to Republican.

As she seeks office in 2022, Cassel described herself as a “proud Democrat,” a “pro-choice champion,” and a “loyal ally to the LGBTQ+ community.”

She also pledged that she would “stand up to climate change deniers” and “stand up to the NRA and fight for a ban on military-style assault rifles and the high-capacity ammunition that makes them so lethal.”
