Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou said the club is “working hard” to try to make some signings this month to allow his injury-hit squad to compete.
Tottenham face Newcastle at lunchtime on Saturday, and Postecoglou is set to miss some players due to illness.
The player is already missing defenders Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies and Cristian Romero, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, and strikers Richarlison, Wilson Odubert and Mickey Moore.
To add to the problems, midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was suspended on Saturday, and left-back Destiny Udoji was ruled out for six weeks with a hamstring injury.
“It's not about payment, but the club is working hard to try to get some help for the group of players,” Postecoglou said. “The club is working hard on that.
“January is not an easy month, it is not an easy time to bring people in especially quickly. At the same time, we want to do what is best for us rather than panic and bring in the right people.
“Richarlison and Micky (Moore) are the next two cars out – hopefully next week sometime. Ben (Davies), (Micky) van de Ven and (Cristian) Romero are all at the same time which is the end of January.

Tottenham have won just three of their last 13 games and suffered a crushing defeat to Liverpool just before Christmas. They have an EFL Cup semi-final against the Reds next week but the Australian has not put his finger on the cause of his injury problems.
“I think it's probably a combination of different things,” he said. The number of matches, the way we play.
“I think the tough thing for us is that a fair number of our injuries have been reoccurring injuries which is something we look at. I don't think it's unique to us. I think you see it across the board with clubs but we've been hit more extreme. ( “Guglielmo Vicario, his injury is not a muscle injury, it is a long-term injury, but this kind of thing exacerbates the situation we are in.”
“Tuchel will be impressed.”
New England coach Thomas Tuchel will be in the stands for Saturday's game, while forward Dominic Solanke will be there to impress.
The big-money player from Bournemouth has scored 10 goals for Tottenham this season, and Postecoglou is confident the new manager will like what he sees.
“Dom (Solanke) has been great for us,” he said.
“He scores goals but his all-round attitude and ability to help the team in all aspects of our football – defensively, link-up play, still being present in the box, is really intelligent with his movements and really carries that position over his team.” Returning without assistance or rest.
“It speaks volumes about his character and the type of person he is. I can't speak highly enough about him. The burden he's had to carry for us over the last couple of months without a lot of help from us has allowed him to recover, and yet he's still giving a tremendous performance.” Every week – I have no doubt that Thomas Tuchel will be impressed.”
