Tim Tszyu posted on Instagram today, telling his 283,000 followers that 2025 is the year “we all become great.” Former WBO junior middleweight champion Tszyu (24-2, 17 KO) admits that 2024 has not been great for him, as he has lost his title and won two in a row.
First, he was beaten by Sebastian Fundora in a 12-round split decision on March 30. Then, on October 19, in Orlando, Florida, he was knocked out in the third round in an unsuccessful world title challenge against the undefeated IBF 154-pound champion. Bakram Murtazaliev.
Tszyu's loss to Murtazaliev was tough, and indicated that he needed to rebuild his fighting career against opposition at the local level in his native Australia.
Back to basics
It would be reckless for Tim to continue fighting top level 5 fighters at 154 because a third loss is beyond the point of comeback. It will be tough mentally, but fans will absolutely give up on Tszyu if he loses his next contest.
In hindsight, it was a mistake to challenge Tszyu Murtazaliev (23-0, 17 KOs) in his first fight after losing to Fundora. He should have dealt with a softer opponent instead of this guy, who is one of the hardest punchers in the division.
Murtazaliev's power and offensive skills are likely too much for Terence Crawford, Fundora and Israel Madrimov. Tszyu should have known better to trade tough shots with this guy.
“2024 is a year of adversity. I considered myself a rebound fighter, I didn't care who was in front of me, I was ready to take on anyone. Things don't always go according to script…but that's the best thing about boxing. What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger. Appreciate everyone for the support. Sorry I let so many down… I like to do the best. And that's exactly what I will continue to do. That's punching with anyone. I hope everyone has a happy and prosperous New Year.
2025 is the year we all become great. In everything we do. Chase greatness and never stop believing!! “See you all very soon,” Tim Tszyu said. Instagram.
