One topic I've written about passionately before is the unexpected joy you might discover when you go back and watch a “bad” movie. For example, when I recently reviewed the infamous remake of a horror classic, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Nana Visitor was played by 2009's Pamela Voorhees. Friday the 13th. If you're not aware, she's best known for playing a Bajora terrorist turned Head Girl in the hit series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
If you've already seen the movie and don't remember seeing Nana Visitor in the more recent Friday the 13th movie, that's because she has a very brief appearance. The film attempts to cram several parts of the famous Jason Voorhees lore into one story, meaning we get a brief flashback at the beginning that essentially recreates the ending of the first film. Friday the 13th. Accordingly, our favorite Star Trek The icon played Pamela Voorhees, the surprise assassin in the franchise's original outing who was decapitated by a would-be victim who became our first Final Girl.
Another reason why it's so easy to forget that Nana Visitor appears in it Friday the 13th is that this film follows up her flashback sequence with an extended cold open. We're basically introduced to a completely different group of young characters obsessed with sex and weed, and they're being systematically murdered by Jason (who initially gave his bag-head look an updated look from the first sequel film). By the time we're introduced to the real cast of characters, it's easy to forget that the film began with the Star Trek legend playing one of horror's most iconic roles.
Unfortunately, we don't get to see Nana Visitor show off her significant acting skills after the flashback sequence Friday the 13th. After all, having her beheaded once the movie starts leaves no room for her to do anything else. However, as a huge Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Fans, I hope this movie serves as a proper remake of the original, right down to the reveal that Pamela Voorhees is the killer. Very few people can match the performance of Pam's original actress Betsy Palmer, but Visitor is very good at it Deep Space Nine I'm sure she could have carried the entire movie.
If you just want to see more of Nana's visitors Friday the 13thYou're lucky (more or less). As with previous entries in the franchise, Jason keeps her severed head in a bizarre bit of slasher emotion. The Star Trek actor's head first appears as a jump scare, but later gains a surprising amount of narrative significance. That's because the Final Girl in this movie realizes that she has a superficial resemblance to Pamela Voorhees and uses that to temporarily trick Jason in her attempt to escape his clutches.
If you want to check out Nana Visitor's unforgettable foray into horror, you can stream Friday the 13th (2009) on Max. Admittedly, the film isn't for everyone, which is why it received a dismal 26 percent critical rating. Rotten tomatoes. But for those who want to see the Star Trek legend embodied in horror, this surprisingly brilliant remake (damn you haters!) is more than worth the price of admission.
