A really bad movie is a work of art, e.g Plan 9 of outer space or ManosMovies that are extremely bad to watch are an experience that every cinephile should experience at least once. You can't fully appreciate great films without knowing how bad things can be when a director's vision is greater than his budget. The greatest modern example of these films is… Earth storma nonsensical sci-fi disaster film starring Gerard Butler that makes no sense when you explain it and even less when you try to watch it, but it has become a satirical classic.

Gerard Butler, scientist

Gerard Butler goes into space Earth storm

For starters, Butler plays Jake Lawson, a satellite designer whose name might as well be “the good guy,” who is brought back to the project he started three years ago to figure out what's going wrong with the weather system. – Satellite control. Satellites are able to freeze a village in the desert and unleash fiery tornadoes on Hong Kong in a sequence that looks like it should look amazing but plays out like a screensaver. And even the mystery of what is happening there Earth storm Hardly interesting on a superficial level, as Jake immediately suspects one of the satellite crew members to be a traitor.

He's right, of course, as you can see Earth stormyou'll learn that Jake is never wrong, right down to identifying the main American official responsible for the whole mess. And in a testament to how bad the movie is, in the best way possible, you can even decipher the plot by looking at the cast list. That and the solution to the rogue satellite network is to knock the satellites out of orbit using other satellites as weapons, which is at least as ridiculous as it sounds.

Earth storm It's a film that moves at a mile a minute, with something happening all the time, and yet, thanks to some of the worst dialogue of the modern era and a startlingly inconsistent pacing, it also feels like nothing is happening. When the storm finally hits Earth, they're in bland scenes of mass destruction that have less weight to them than characters tumbling around a plant in zero gravity. However, you need to watch this movie to really understand how amazingly wrong the whole project was.

Best B movie in years

The cast is stacked, from Butler to Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris, Andy Garcia, the always underappreciated Marie Winningham, Zazie Beetz, and To the badlands Star Daniel Wu. Behind the camera is Dean Devlin, the man behind the fun adventures Librarians and impact He's making his directorial debut, and he's trying hard. In fact, you can tell that everyone is doing their best Earth stormby chewing the scenery and delivering the most trivial technobabble with a straight face, it's this passion and visual effort that makes this a true B-movie classic.

Earth storm It is the most boring Science fiction The greatest disaster movie ever made is, in a way, also the best because it's so big, it's reckless, and it's trying too hard. There are better movies out there, thousands of them, maybe a million, but very few hit that sweet spot that makes for perfect viewing with friends while you all scream at the screen. You should never watch this movie alone because then the horrors completely hit you, but with friends giving your best at Mystery Science Theater, it's the best movie of the last ten years.

Best of all, Earth storm It's streaming now on Tubi, so you don't even have to pay to watch it.
