They hatch a plan to drill a hole into the asteroid and drop a nuclear bomb, but that means finding expert drillers in short order. To this end, NASA hires a veteran oil driller and his team of incompetent employees, and whether or not they can work as well in space as they do on Earth will determine whether they have a planet to return to when their mission is done.

plot Armageddon It's delightfully crazy, but it's based on some great artists, including… Billy Bob Thornton As the angry NASA executive responsible for recruiting an oil team led by Bruce Willis. He plays the best worker on the team Ben Affleckwho often focuses his attention on his boss's wife (played by Liv Tyler) rather than the job. As for the mission, its success or failure depends on the talents of the Odd Oil team, whose characters are brought to life by eccentric veterans like Steve Buscemi and… Owen Wilson.

Big box office hit but was panned by critics

when Armageddon It premiered in 1998, and was a hit with audiences thanks to everything from its star-studded cast to Aerosmith's theme song and hit music video. Against a budget of $140 million, this film grossed a stellar (or perhaps it should be interstellar?) $553.7 million. Surprisingly, this film never got a sequel, but its cultural impact still resonates to this day.

Unfortunately, Armageddon It didn't exactly resonate with critics: on Rotten tomatoesthe film received a very low critical rating of 43 percent. In general, critics complained that the film's brilliant presentation was brought down by an extremely stupid script. However, the audience did not mind, and Armageddon It received a much higher audience rating of 73 percent for Popcornmeter.

Critics are not wrong that this is the kind of text that you need to turn off your brain to enjoy. If you can do it, though, you'll find out Armageddon Heir to the '90s action of all the 'snobs vs. slobs' movies of the '80s. Now, the Arrogant Ones are the ones running the show but must eventually ask for help in order to save the world, and the resulting film is very entertaining to watch.

Plus, the plethora of talent means you can always count on a veteran actor to steal the scene with a combination of stupid dialogue and killer line delivery. There's also some fun physical comedy that helps give this disaster movie enough off-kilter laughs to avoid deathly seriousness. Armageddon It also has a poignant romantic subplot, and the sticky sweetness of these characters' love pairings pairs perfectly with the salty cynicism of…well, pretty much everyone else.

Will you find Armageddon An out-of-this-world hit like ours, or do you want the asteroid to wipe us all out by the time the credits roll? You won't know until you stream it Disney+. Just be careful: there's going to be a certain Aerosmith song stuck in your head long after that song is over.
