American lines flight carrying dozens of passengers collided with a military helicopter, as it approached Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC.
Officials said the plane was then crashed into the Botomac River, and he was searching boats and divers in the waters for the survivors.
The Bombardier CRJ700 regional plane – carrying 60 passengers and four crew members – collided with the helicopter as it was approaching the runway at approximately 21:00 EST (02:00 GMT) on Wednesday.
The plane was coming from Whitchita, Kansas, according to the airline.
American media reports say that the plane crashed into two halves in the Botomac River with boats and divers who are now looking for people.
A defense official said that three US military soldiers were on board the Black Hawk military plane, which collided with the plane.
The helicopter took off from Fort Balfwar in Virginia.
US President Donald Trump said he was “completely informed of the terrible accident.”
“Thank you for the amazing work that our respondents have done. I am watching the situation and I will provide more details with their appearance,” he said in a statement.
The airport was written in a post on X.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it was conducting an investigation.
