Hollywood suffers from an obsession with prequels and sequels, but this creates a vicious cycle where successful films require another film but follow-ups are often futile. a lot Worse than ever before (I'm looking at you, Star Wars). And when a film is part of a wide-ranging series, the sequel may not actually be one badbut it's different enough from what came before that it will turn off audiences. This is what happened with Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga. At first, I was disappointed by how different this prequel was from the game Road of angerBut after watching it again on Netflix I decided on it grouchy It is a flawed masterpiece.

Furiosa conspiracy

If you've been living under a rock (or in an apocalyptic wasteland), here's a brief synopsis grouchy This can help you decide whether to stream it on Netflix or not. We follow the adventures of the titular Furiosa as she is caught up in the violent power game between Dementus and Immortan Joe, who each want to be the supreme leader of a world fueled by water and gasoline. She eventually grows in power and fame as a member of Joe's army, as the film fully explains her character's unexpected transformation. Mad Max: Road of anger.

If you are Road of anger Fan, watch grouchy On Netflix it may be confusing at first due to casting changes: Anya Taylor Joy She replaces Charlize Theron as Furiosa in this prequel, and Lachy Hulme replaces the late, great Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe. Although he barely appears in the film, Jacob Tomori replaces Tom Hardy in the role of Max Rockatansky, and the cast is rounded out by other memorable newcomers, including Chris Hemsworth In a wonderful off-kilter performance as Dementus.

The reaction is horrific

Creator of Mad Max George Miller He returned to lead this advance group, and after success Road of anger (which grossed $380.5 million against a budget of $154.6-185.2 million), hopes were very high for another cinematic success. Unfortunately, grouchy It crashed and burned before ending up on Netflix: This $168 million film barely made back its budget, earning a relatively paltry $173.8 million at the box office. The general consensus was that the film failed because it was too different Road of anger (More on this soon), but it achieved a simple theatrical victory: winning over the critics.

on Rotten tomatoes, grouchy It received a critical rating of 90 percent, with critics generally praising the film's unexpected emotional core as well as how it provides an interesting backdrop for the film. Road of anger. It also received a Popcornmeter rating of 89 percent, with audiences generally digging this prequel for being an action-packed entry in Hollywood's strangest franchise. This indicates that those who watched grouchy I mostly liked it… Unfortunately, unless the movie picks up a huge following on Netflix, the sad truth is that a lot of people will skip this movie altogether.

That's a shame, although it took me a while to realize that. Full confession: I was one of the many Mad Max fans who were disappointed by this prequel because it was so different from it Road of angerdelivers a sprawling, character-centric origin story when I was expecting another high-octane non-stop car chase. Once I watched grouchy On Netflix, I realized I That was the problem. I was judging this film for not being a revamp of Fury Road, when it was clear that director George Miller wanted to return to the ambitious world-building he first set out at full speed in 2018. Mad Max: Beyond Thunder.

Everyone remembers Thunderdome For things like the titular Thunderdome showdown against the Master Blaster and Tina Turner's over-the-top acting. But what's easy to forget is just how steeped this sequel is in lore and worldbuilding, showing us everything from how post-apocalyptic cities create energy to how hero cults form around the fragmented memories of the pre-apocalypse. It's uneven and admittedly not as good as the previous film; the Road warriorbut it gives fans a lot to chew on.

Must watch grouchy on Netflix (especially as part of a double feature including… Road of angerwhich is also on My neighbor Platform), you'll probably feel the same way: the prequel simply isn't as great as the previous Tom Hardy/Charlize Theron masterpiece, but it's still great. As long as you go in with an open mind (and ideally, a healthy love for the Mad Max franchise), you'll find this movie full of fun performances and delightful surprises. If you're anticipating Fury Road: The Prequel, you'll probably echo Immortan Joe and judge this movie as “average!”

So will you find it? grouchy A masterpiece as flawed as it was when you streamed it on Netflix, or will you decide it's time for George Miller to hang up this franchise like one of Immortan Joe's bloodbags? You won't know until you stream it yourself. If nothing else, consider this movie quest… If our world descends into water wars like Max Rockatansky's, Anya Taylor-Joy's fighting moves could mean the difference in whether you become a warlord or just another war boy.
