SEOUL (Reuters) – South Korea's acting president Han Dak-soo spoke with US President Joe Biden by phone, local media reported on Sunday.
Han said that South Korea will implement its foreign and security policies without interruption and will strive to ensure that the alliance between South Korea and the United States is maintained and steadily developed, Yonhap News Agency quoted him as saying.
Biden told Han that the strict alliance between the United States and South Korea has not changed, and the United States will work with South Korea to further develop and strengthen the US-South Korea alliance as well as the trilateral cooperation between South Korea, Japan and the United States. Media reports added.
Prime Minister Han became the acting president of South Korea after Yoon Suk-yeol was removed on Saturday.
With Parliament voting to impeach Yoon after his short-lived attempt to impose martial law, Yoon was suspended from exercising presidential powers, and the constitution requires the prime minister to assume acting responsibility.
