Teofimo Lopez has signed a multi-year consulting contract with Keith Connolly and Mike Borao. WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo (21-1, 13 KOs) says he will be “Fight the best” He will be in “big fights” this year.

If the new advisors can give Teofimo a talent he doesn't have, his career will be in great shape by the end of 2025. However, that doesn't seem likely. This could be the worst year of Lopez's career, and he will be at the end of his rope after February 2026.

High-stakes fight schedule

It's great that Teofimo signed a multi-year contract, but these guys can't sustain his career if he intends to “fight the best,” as he says. He does not appear to be able to win both of his fights in 2025, and he may lose in February 2025 as well.

Lopez (27 years old) will fight three decisive fights that could destroy his entire career. The IBF light welterweight champion is expected to fight Richardson Hitchens In April he unified the two belts and then moved to 147 to challenge the IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Butz” Ennis In October.

If Teo loses to Ennis, he will face the loser of a rematch between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia in February 2026. That will be a fight of losers. Teo losing that fight would finish him 0-3, and it's hard to see him coming back to reinvest himself, regardless of who manages him.

Lopez was rolled out around the Ring Awards event in London on January 11, holding himself as a major star, but his career isn't looking good after a string of terrible performances since 2021. He was given the opportunity to fight Subriel Matias recently on PPV on West. Coast, but he refused. Some fans saw this as a result of Teofimo knowing he was going to lose, so he chose to sideline the fight.
