Teofimo Lopez posted on X Today, asking his promoters at Top Rank about ““acquisition” The figure is so he can get out of the remainder of his contract.

Why this sudden burst of energy from Lopez asking his promoters for the takeover number? He could see free agent Devin Haney fight on BLK Prime on March 25 and likely make good money. Teo might want to get in on the action.

Teofimo out of the top tier?

As a free agent, Lopez could be snapped up by Eddie Hearn's Matchroom, or he could choose to follow Haney's strategy to remain in that capacity.

WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo (21-1-1, 13 KOs) seems to think he will get bigger fights once he leaves Top Rank, but it is questionable if that will happen. Teo's loss to George Kambosos Jr. and his controversial victories over Jamin Ortiz and Sandor Martin showed that he is a limited fighter.

How does Lopez not know his possession number? His manager should be able to give him this information. Top Rank has done man's work with Teofimo throughout his career. It's not their fault he's looked so poor since the big win of his career against Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2020.

Teofimo is currently expected to face former IBF light welterweight champion Subriel Matias on March 15 in a non-PPV event on ESPN. There's a good chance Lopez will lose that fight, as he looked bad against Jammin, Sandor, and Steve Clagett.
