Barcelona recovered from Kylian Mbappe's stunning opener and sent off goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in the 56th minute to crush Real Madrid and win the Spanish Super Cup at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
Real Madrid striker Mbappe traveled almost half the length of the field to score his first goal in the match known as El Clásico, but Lamin Yamal He equalized after 17 minutes, heading to Robert Lewandowski's smart pass the first time, and calmly putting it into the net after entering the penalty area.
Lewandowski scored from a penalty kick, Rafinha fired a perfect header from Jules Kounde's cross, and Alejandro Balde completed a brilliant counterattack, giving Hansi Flick's team a 4-1 lead in the first half, with the Brazilian winger scoring again three minutes after the end of the first half.
When Szczesny was shown a straight red card for denying Mbappé a clear scoring chance, midfielder Gavi made way for Inaki Pena – who had been dropped before Barcelona's semi-final match for being late – to slot in.
Pena didn't have time to settle down before Rodrygo responded for Real Madrid with a stunning free-kick. It was a modest consolation as the European champions' five-game winning streak came to an end and Barcelona took stylish revenge for their 4-1 defeat in last season's final.
