According to press reports, Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim is seeking to sign Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.

This is according to a report from All transferswhich states that talks have already taken place with Manchester United, which has moved ahead of Newcastle in the race to sign Christensen.
Christensen's signing could be useful to add depth and experience to United's squad, even if he is not the player he was at the peak of his career.

The 28-year-old was a regular at Chelsea when he was younger, and made a promising start when he joined Barcelona, although a host of fitness and form issues mean he has now lost his place.

The Red Devils are having a poor season, so they could make as many changes as possible in order to give their new manager the culture reset he needs.
Christensen would certainly be an upgrade over the likes of Victor Lindelof, and perhaps also Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez.
Christensen probably won't be an automatic starter at Old Trafford, so it remains to be seen whether he will certainly choose that option over others if there are teams willing to give him a bigger role.
However, with Amorim playing as a three-man defence, it means Christensen gets opportunities to play more often and rotate with others in United's line-up.
