Jaime Munguia was surprisingly beaten by Bruno Suras, a fighter with only four knockouts, on Saturday night in the sixth round of their encounter at Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, Mexico.

Canelo comparison

What made this knockout by Surace (26-0-2, 5 KOs) even more impressive was that he had to get off the deck in the second round only to come back to KO Munguia with one punch in the sixth round.

What does this say about Canelo Alvarez? He wasn't even able to get the better of Munguia (44-2, 35 KOs) when they fought on May 4 in Las Vegas. Canelo defeated Mugna via a 12-round unanimous decision, never getting close to being eliminated.

Losing to his hometown fans in Tijuana, Mexico must have been a bitter pill for Munguia to swallow because they all saw what happened. His popularity will decline in Mexico now.

Berlanga's plans were derailed

Edgar Berlanga took the news of Munguia's loss hard. He was hoping to fight him next in the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico match on PPV. Berlanga complained that Munguia ruined the bag, which is a fair statement.

Soras will fire Berlanga for the way he fought tonight. He'll make easy work of him like he did with Munguia.

It would be impossible to sell a fight between them on PPV, as both men are coming off losses. It will be impossible to sell, especially when someone is not trying to win but is just coming to survive.

What the New York-born Berlanga should do is call up Sauras, and if he can't get him, fight Caleb Plante. There is no bag for Berlanga. Canelo won't fight him again, and Munguia certainly won't either.
