Horror isn't the genre you normally associate with musicals, although there are some killer musicals out there, including old classics like Rocky Horror Picture Show And the latest features such as Anna and the end of the world. But the only problem with horror musicals is that they tend to focus more on Broadway-style silliness rather than bloodlust. If you are like me and you are looking for excellent A mix of melodies and horror, you're in luck: Repo! Gene operon It's now streaming for free on Tubi.
Repo conspiracy! Genetic operon
Based on the musical of the same name, Repo! Gene operon The film is set in a bleak future where most of humanity has been wiped out due to widespread organ failure. The cruel company GeneCo will transplant organs into those who have the money, which has managed to save lives while creating a culture of fun body modifications. But when someone defaults on payment, those organs can be recovered, and when GeneCo's founder gets a fatal diagnosis, it sets him on a collision course with his repo man that will change everything.
Cast Repo! Gene operon Small but full of familiar faces, including a surprise appearance by Paris Hilton and even an appearance by Joan Jett. She played our main heroine Spy kids Veteran Alexa Vegas and horror icon Bill Moseley play a memorable role in one of GeneCo's flops. Meanwhile, the titular repo is played by Buffy the Vampire Slayer Legendary Anthony Stewart Head, and the dying CEO are played by Paul Sorvino, who hasn't been a scene-stealing perfectionist since Baz Luhrmann's film. Cult failure
Despite this stacked cast, Repo! Gene operon It was a box office bomb thanks in large part to its very limited theatrical release. Against a budget of $8.5 million, the film earned just $188,126 (no, that's not a typo). Overall, critics grudgingly praised the film for its style, but derided it for being narratively crude and insubstantial. However, it's worth noting that the film received an audience rating of 73% via Popcornmeter, which shows how much more the film resonated with general audiences than critics (who have, historically, been pretty hard-headed on horror films).
Now it's time to answer the question you've probably been screaming at your screen: Why? Heck Do I advise you to watch? Repo! Genetic operona film that couldn't even earn $200,000 at the box office and was generally reviled by critics? For one thing, the music is surprisingly catchy. This may not sound like much, but considering how much the lyrics to “Things You See In A Graveyard” are sitting in my head rent-free, I can't help but recommend this movie to other horror fiends itching to pick up a new earbag. sweet.
In addition, while Repo! Gene operon It has some terrible performances (Paris Hilton rightfully received a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Supporting Actress), and it also has some great, unforgettable performances. Paul Sorvino manages to deliver great line readings and sing some killer tunes while chewing every bit of scenery he can find, and I've never found this talented actor more engaging. As for Anthony Stewart Head, it is Incredibly Rewarding K Buffy One fan of seeing him abandon his stoic librarian persona to play against type as a kind of hitman with a heart of gold.
Finally, as a horror fan, I have to recommend it Repo! Genetic operon To try something different. The genre is full of tired tropes and outdated ideas… like, how often am I supposed to care about teenagers being hunted in the woods or killer sharks terrorizing a small town? Repo! It takes big twists that don't always connect, but it stands out as being completely unique… the kind of ambitious horror show we may never see any other director attempt to create.
