Stacey Abrams MSNBC said Monday that President-elect Donald Trump's victory does not indicate a “seismic shift.”
“We keep forgetting what happened in November,” Abrams told MSNBC's Chris Hayes. “Yes, Donald Trump won the election, but it wasn't a landslide.”
“It was an evenly divided nation,” the twice-failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate said. “He got more people, but it wasn't the seismic shift where 57 or 58 percent of Americans said no.”

Shortly after winning the popular vote and the electoral college, Trump pledged to lead “America’s Golden Age” after launching “the greatest political movement of all time.”
A second presidential victory for the incoming Commander-in-Chief entailed a sweep of all contested states as well as a Republican majority in the House and Senate. According to the Associated Press, Trump received 49.9% of the total national vote.

During the interview, Abrams also spoke about the legacy of the late President Jimmy Carter by discussing “decency” in politics. She implored Democrats to “expand decency” to attract more people to the party.
“I think fitness is a choice. It's a difficult choice, but when we look at it authentically, it has the effect of enhancing confidence and raising morale. It can't in itself be the only symptom and I think what we saw, unfortunately, with President Carter, is that When modesty faces shame, shame has a leg up because it is willing to do things that modesty cannot do, which does not mean that you abandon modesty.
She also said: “Our responsibility is to show those who have stayed home, who have remained silent, that there is a place for decency and a place for them,” she told Hayes. “That is the work to be done next.”
