SEOUL (Reuters) – South Korean investigators asked the country's interim president again on Saturday to order the presidential security service to comply with an arrest warrant for ousted President Yeon Suk-yul.
On Friday, the security service, along with military forces, prevented prosecutors from arresting Yoon Suk-yeol in a six-hour standoff inside Yoon's compound. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Yoon over his brief declaration of martial law last month.
The Corruption Investigation Bureau of Senior Officials said on Saturday that it had once again asked Acting President Choi Sang-mok, the country's finance minister, to order the Presidential Security Service to cooperate with the arrest warrant.
A Ministry of Finance spokesman declined to comment.
Yoon's military declaration on December 3 caught South Korea by surprise and led to the issuance of the first arrest warrant for a sitting president.
