SEOUL (Reuters) – A South Korean court on Tuesday approved an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol, who was impeached and suspended from power over his decision to impose martial law on December 3, investigative authorities said.
The Corruption Investigation Bureau confirmed to senior officials that the Seoul Western District Court had approved the arrest warrant.
This is the first arrest warrant ever issued against a sitting president in South Korea, according to local media.
South Korean investigators on Monday sought to issue an arrest warrant for Yoon due to the imposition of martial law for a short period this month.
Yoon faces a criminal investigation into possible charges of rebellion.
The court declined to comment.
