NBC News' Kristen Welker confronted the senator with a clip of Schumer talking about Biden on February 13, 2024. “His mental acuity is great. He's good. He's as good as he's been over the years. All this right-wing,” Schumer said. “The propaganda that his mental acuity has declined is false.”

“We didn't do that. Let's look at President Biden. He had an amazing record. Welker then asked Schumer if he was confident Biden could have served a second term.

Schumer responded, saying: “Well, I won’t speculate. As I said, I think his record is excellent, and he will go down in history as a truly distinguished president.”

The “Meet the Press” panel also discussed Schumer's interview and MSNBC host Symone Sanders Townsend argued that Schumer should have pressed Welker harder.

“The question on the table is: Has the president gotten there? And the answer is unequivocally yes,” Sanders insisted. “People can say you feel as though President Biden might be too old to do the job, but he's doing the job, his mental acuity is there. So I think there's a combination of two things there. It's his mental capacity. And he serves four more years as his age.” “But those are two separate things, in my opinion, and these people who have known Joe Biden their whole lives and I know President Biden, and it's like, can you all defend me a little bit more?”
