After one of the most historic seasons in golf in 2024, 2025 is not going to get off to a perfect start. Scotty Scheffler.

PGA Player of the Year and No. 1 golf player in the world He will miss next week's Sentry Championship after undergoing hand surgery.

In a statement released Friday, Schaeffler's manager, Blake Smith, said Schaeffler “suffered a puncture wound … from broken glass” in his right hand on Christmas Day while preparing dinner.

“Small glass shards remained in the palm, which required surgery. He was told he should be back to 100% within three to four weeks,” Smith said, adding that Scheffler has officially withdrawn from The Sentry.

Schaeffler's next scheduled tournament is the American Express Championship, which begins on January 16. This year, Sentry is designated as a featured event, the first of eight.

Scheffler's injury comes months after he completed one of the greatest seasons the PGA has ever seen. He started his season with four top-10 finishes in his first five tournaments. Then, he kicked in another gear. He had four wins and a tie for second place in his next five events. He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players, RBC Heritage and Masters.

His season took a sharp turn in May, when he was arrested while heading into the second round of the World Series PGA Championship at Valhalla. He spent some time in a prison cell before casually shooting 66 people later in the day. He finished tied for eighth in the championship.

Schaeffler then won the Monument and Travelers in June and then won the Olympic gold in Paris. Including the Olympics, Schaeffler has eight wins, two second-place finishes, 17 top-10 finishes, and no cuts in 20 events. His seven wins in PGA events are the most since 2007.
