(Reuters) – Sales of new passenger cars in Russia increased by 47 percent year-on-year to 1.55 million units in 2024, Russian news agencies reported on Saturday, citing data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
New sales in 2025 are expected to fall by about 10% to 1.43 million units, as higher inflation and cancellation fees push up prices, Sergei Tsilikov, head of Russian analysis agency Autostat, said in December.
Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 radically reshaped the Russian auto market, with Western automakers abandoning the country and Chinese companies swooping in to fill the production gap. Sales fell in 2022 but are steadily recovering.
