As the New Orleans community continues to mourn those lost in the terrorist attack in the early hours of New Year's Day, Saints The Pelicans announced that one of the dead was an employee.

The Saints' statement began: “We are still saddened by the tragic events that claimed the lives of innocent people in our city yesterday morning.” “Among those missing is Matthew Tenendorio, a valued member of the ASM New Orleans video production team. Matthew was young, talented and had a bright future, helping provide quality content for both the New Orleans Saints. And the swans.

“Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with the Tenidorio family and everyone affected by this senseless act of terrorism. Together, as a city, state and region, we will come back stronger from this tragedy.”

The attack led to the postponement of the Sugar Bowl, the College Football Playoff quarterfinal game between Georgia and Notre Dame at Caesars Superdome.

The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday night but was postponed to Thursday afternoon.

Authorities opened Bourbon Street hours before the game on Thursday, which Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry is expected to attend.

“Security will be tight,” Landry said during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.” “We have every confidence that we will get this game going. The Superdome is completely safe. And once again, the FBI continues to pour resources into the state.”

Many reacted to the senseless act of violence, including Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman, who spoke to his team about what happened.

“The first part of this meeting was mourning and praying for our country,” he said during an appearance on ESPN.

“In the most difficult moments, the culture of any program or nation is exposed. I have great confidence that we will rally around the city of New Orleans and support all the victims and families impacted today.”

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey also posted on social media platform X.

“We remain stunned and saddened by the New Year’s tragedy in New Orleans,” Sankey wrote.

“We are also grateful for the work of so many to modify and adapt to make today's soccer match possible for @GeorgiaFootball and @NDFootball.”

The winner of the Sugar Bowl will move on to face No. 6 Penn State, which defeated No. 3 Boise State on New Year's Eve.
