Foreign Minister Marco Rubio confirmed that he is now the Acting Director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
Rubio told reporters this while receiving questions from the press in El Salvador.
“The US Agency for International Development does not work. It must be compatible with the United States policy. It must be compatible with the national interest of the United States,” he said. “It is not a global charitable institution, as these are taxpayers dollars. People ask simple questions. What do they do with money? We spend taxpayers money. We owe taxpayers that he enhances our national interest.”
“I am the Acting Director,” he confirmed when asked if he was now responsible. “Our goal was to allow our external assistance in the interest of patriotism. It has been 20 or 30 years. They tried to fix it. This will not continue.”
Instructions were directed to the United States Agency for International Development on Monday to stay outside the agency's headquarters in Washington after Elon Musk announced that President Donald Trump agreed to close the agency. Thousands of US Agency for International Development and Programs have already been demobilized.
