First on Fox: the equal protection project, Cornell University professor William Jacobson, who founded and leads it, released an in-depth report on the prevalence of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training at Ivy League universities.
In his comprehensive report, “Poison Ivy: DEI and the Downfall of the Ivys,” Jacobson examines the programs that the eight Ivy League institutions use and require for students.

In his report, Jacobson found that among the eight Ivy League universities:
- Four of them require DEI training in student mentoring programs (Columbia, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale).
- Six of them require faculty or staff training in DEI in some capacity (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Penn, Princeton and Yale).
- All eight have DEI offices at the institutional and/or department level.
- Five have a strategic plan dedicated to DEI or anti-racism (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth and Yale).
- All eight have DEI or CRT (Critical Race Theory) topics in their classrooms and curriculum.
- All eight have bias reporting systems.
Jacobson said he found that While universities “Pretending” not to consider race, in practice, they often do.
“Ivy League universities pretend they don't take race into account but then provide essay questions opportunities for students to talk about their race,” he said.
“It is hard to believe that in environments where DEI is the dominant ideology, gaining quasi-religious fervor, that race does not actually factor into admissions decisions, even if there is embellishment to provide potential legal cover.”
Brown University
The report found that all departments In Brown Requires a multi-year plan for DEI.
Columbia University
In their mentoring programs, students In Colombia Undergo their “Inclusion and Belonging” program, which, Jacobson says, “includes concepts like inclusion, diversity, equity, allyship, and bias.”
Cornell University
At Cornell, the DoBetterCornell student group is involved in developing educational requirements that focus on topics such as systemic racism, bias, colonialism, and inequality.
Additionally, Jacobson found that in 2024, the Center for Racial Justice and Just Futures was launched to focus on anti-Black racism.
Dartmouth University
All students at Dartmouth are required to take a Culture and Identity class.
Harvard University
Harvard has it The Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging, which also houses the Institute for Inclusive Teaching, dedicated to training faculty and staff to integrate inclusive teaching.
Princeton University
The report notes that Princeton requires all staff, student leaders, and faculty involved in graduate admissions and hiring staff to attend culture and difference class and DEI training.
University of Pennsylvania
Penn has a Cultural Diversity course requirement for all undergraduates as well as a Multicultural Perspectives course for all Wharton School students.
The University of Michigan could dismantle its DEI program
In 2022, Ivy League DEI and Environmental, Social, and Governance of Business (ESGB) majors and concentrations are offered to Wharton students as undergraduate majors and concentrations.
Jacobson noted that Penn also has a program known as Projects for Progress, which provides grants of up to $100,000 to projects focused on topics like systemic racism.
Yale University
Jacobson reported that Yale University requires that every school and administrative department have a five-year plan on DEI.
The Equal Protection Project focuses on challenging discrimination based on race. The organization has challenged more than 100 scholarships and programs that discriminate against white and Asian students at universities across the country.
