Sun Day Red isn't out of the woods yet when it comes to trademarking their logo.

Footwear giant Puma has filed a last-minute notice of opposition against Tiger Woods' logos associated with his Sun Day Red brand, according to the British Daily Mail. Deposit Last week.

The German athletic shoe and apparel company says the Sun Day Red logo closely resembles the logo used by Puma since 1969. The company has filed to block the TaylorMade-owned golf brand from using its proposed mark.

“Given the confusing similarity between the marks and the identical, legally identical, or closely related nature of the goods and services provided by the parties, it is likely that a consumer will be confused between the Challenger Marks and the Leaping Cat logo,” Puma said in the filing.

In a statement to CNBC, TaylorMade said, “We feel very confident in our brands and logos.”

Josh Gerbin, trademark attorney at Tanning intellectual propertyHe said the challenge posed by Puma is “huge.”

“This is a real fight,” said Gerbin, whose company is not involved in the lawsuit against Puma. “Any time you have an open lawsuit you can lose. I think Puma has a legitimate case.”

The two sides could still reach a settlement before the case goes to trial, likely in September 2026, according to Gerben.

Gerben said disputes over logos are much less common than trademark disputes over names or slogans.

“The tiger definitely has a target on his back,” he said. “It's big enough to move the markets.”
