Pete Davidson He wants to be known for his work, not as “that loser.” Who dates people“.
the Saturday Night Live The alum spoke to In a magazine About his public perception and how his fame has seeped into his personal and professional life.
“I just want to be known that I'm doing a good job,” said Davidson, 31. “I only want to be out there when it comes to movies or stand-up comedy or charity work or business projects. That's when I want to be seen. I don't want to be This loser who only dates people is not who I am.”
Whether he likes it or not, Davidson's love life has never been private. He was a comedian and actor for a brief period engaged to Ariana Grande Before he continued to date other celebrities like them Kim Kardashian, Kate Beckinsale, Kazi David, Emily Ratajkowski and Madeleine Klein.
Reflecting on his career in the spotlight — which included eight straight seasons SNLwhich is the starring role in his semi-autobiographical film King of Staten Islandand was named the lead and executive producer of comedy of the year for 2019 Great adolescence – Davidson now admits he was “oversaturated.”
“in The sopranothere's this line from Tony that's like, “Do you ever feel like you're finally into something?” When are the good times over? That's how I feel about show business and being a celebrity. “It's over,” he said.
He added: “I made the mistake of doing literally everything. Now I'm older and wiser, and I realize that less is more.
As a result, Davidson has been laying low lately — focusing on socks, of all things. He was recently appointed creative director of colorful sock brand Doublesoul, and said the product is “comfortable and sexy, and the name is great.” Working with founders Ben Rosenbaum and Alison StrohmaierDavidson immediately found himself coming up with ideas that, according to Strohmer, “reflected his deep insights into what constitutes cultural significance.”
Davidson doesn't plan to stop there, either. Although his fashion sense has caught the attention of fans in the past, his quirky appearance is an aspect of his fame that he seems to be embracing.
According to the actor, he would be interested in putting more effort into the fashion industry – if it meant staying “behind the scenes” without becoming one of those celebrities who push their brand on their followers.
This new line of work represents a stark change from acting and comedy, and one that Davidson seems to have welcomed.
“People hate celebrities now,” he added. “The media picks up a bunch of celebrities every couple of years, and they destroy them. For some reason, I'm one of the people that chooses to go after them. It's actually a blessing in a way, because it's allowed me to take a step back and evaluate things.”
Now that he's taken stock, Davidson doesn't have to think of himself as a “loser who dates people.”
“I had that voice very loud in my head for a while,” he admitted.
