Wolves coach Vitor Pereira said he was proud of his players' efforts despite seeing them lose for the first time as high-flying Nottingham Forest won 3-0 at Molineux.

Wolves were without key striker Matheus Cunha and remain in trouble in the Premier League in 17th place after goals from Morgan Gibbs-White, Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi gave Forest the points.

But Pereira's team looked strong in the first half, with striker Jurgen Strand Larsen blocking a wonderful shot from the goal line and Forest goalkeeper Mats Sels making several saves.

Wolves made 13 attempts at goal including six on target – both more than their clinical visitors – as they failed to score at home for the first time since last April.

“I think we did what we could have done,” Pereira said.

“We had a lot of problems this week, different problems, injury problems. In the end we played with 11 players and 11 players did everything they could to get another result.

“I'm happy for the players, I'm proud of them because they tried everything. I can't tell anyone that they didn't run away, didn't fight, didn't give their best.

He added: “In the end, the result of 3-0 is a heavy result, but we must understand why this happened, and if you understand why this happened, then we know what we must work on to improve this matter.”

Next up for Wolves is a trip to the FA Cup to face Bristol City on Saturday, before a midweek trip to Newcastle in the Premier League.
