Liverpool have been in the news this year due to Trent Alexander-Arnold's ongoing links with Real Madrid.

The England international has entered the final six months of his contract at Anfield and uncertainty surrounding his future has increased.

Winners of the Spanish League and the Champions League Real Madrid have made clear their interest in signing him Right-back for Liverpool.

Los Blancos have already made an offer to Liverpool which was quickly rejected by the Premier League leaders, but that will not stop the Spanish club from making another offer.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has now joined the conversation and claimed the Liverpool defender is certain to leave the club for a move to Real Madrid.

“Oh he will be at Real Madrid, oh 100%. I can't see anything but Real Madrid. The critic said Sky Sports.

“When you get your contract down to six months, the amount of money he would have lost over the last year and a half when he signed a new contract would have been a lot of money – I think he's got to the stage now where he'll go 100%.

“Real Madrid, as I say, very rarely don't get what they want, and very rarely do people reject Real Madrid. So I don't see it not happening.

“I would be shocked if it happened in January, I would be absolutely shocked.”

It appears he is close to leaving the club and there is no way back for the right-back.

Despite the journalist Ben Jacobs revealed the demands of the Liverpool starwhich if implemented, could see the player stay at the club but this seems too optimistic.

If he had any intention of signing a new contract with Liverpool, he would have done so already.

Liverpool must now make sure they keep the player until the end of the season and give themselves the best chance of winning silverware this season.

Allowing him to leave in January must be unacceptable to the club and the fans.
