Patrick Mahomes will take the field for the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday for the first time as a player Father of three children.

Mahomes and his wife Brittany They welcomed their new daughterGolden Ray, on January 12. The midfielder was lucky enough to have a bye week the weekend the Golden Ray arrived, but returned to training just days later.

Now he's ready to face the Houston Texans in a divisional playoff game. He's enduring the historical pressure of trying to lead his team to a third straight Super Bowl title — something no team has ever done — along with the personal pressure of having a newborn girl.

As the only active quarterback with a realistic shot to ever compete with Tom Brady in the legacy discussion, Mahomes faces a task with much higher stakes than Brady faced when he took the field as a father of three for the first time.

Brady welcomed his third child, daughter Vivian Lake, on December 5, 2012 — weeks before any playoff appearances.

But the risks were still very high. Like Mahomes, Brady's first game after giving birth to his third child also came against the Houston Texans.

Brady and the New England Patriots welcomed a Texans team that led the AFC at the time with an 11-1 record to Gillette Stadium for a Monday Night Football showdown. Brady had a 9-3 record with the Patriots, as they looked to chase Houston for first place.

And Brady hasn't missed a beat.

The former Patriots quarterback had a standout game, throwing for 296 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions, as New England dominated 42-14. Brady had a whopping six yards on one carry, which was a good night on the ground for him by his standards in those days.

After the game, Brady relished the win as the perfect end to the week, informing reporters that his then-wife, Gisele Bündchen, was doing well after giving birth.

“She's feeling very good,” Brady told reporters at Bündchen after the match. “It's been a great week, and a great way to end it.”

Mahomes has a high bar to live up to. But if he gives a performance similar to the one Brady gave in 2012, his performance may be even more amplified in how recognizable he is.

With a win in the divisional round, Mahomes and the Chiefs would be just two wins away from taking home their unprecedented third straight Super Bowl title. The spotlight will be brighter on Mahomes and his wife on Saturday than they were on Brady in 2012, as Taylor Swift is scheduled to attend, perhaps alongside Brittany.

And like the Brady game in 2012, Saturday may be the last time Mahomes plays football immediately after having a child.

“I'm good with three right now,” he told reporters Tuesday when asked if he had another child. “We'll see maybe, but my goal was always three, so we had three, and we'll stay there for a while and see if we need to come back and get another one later.”
