Carolina Panthers Linebacker DJ Johnson will miss the team's final game of the season against the Atlanta Falcons this weekend after being involved in a car accident, coach Dave Canales confirmed on Friday.

The team did not go into details, but Canales confirmed to reporters that it was a car accident.

“We gathered information last night and morning. There was a car accident,” Canales said.

“That's pretty much what I know about him. Enough that he's under evaluation now.”

A team spokesman said Sports person Joe Johnson was involved in a two-car accident in Charlotte on Thursday and suffered a concussion. No other details about the accident were immediately known.

Johnson was drafted by the Panthers in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He has 44 tackles, one quarterback hit and one fumble recovery in 14 tackles and two starts this season.

The Panthers have already been eliminated from the playoffs, but Sunday's game is a must-win game Falcons.

A loss to the Chiefs and a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week knocked the Falcons off the top spot in the NFC South, but a win for Atlanta and a loss for the Bucs Sunday will guarantee the Falcons a spot in the postseason.
