Governor of Ohio Mike DeWine Gov. Jon Husted will announce on Friday his pick to fill the Senate vacancy left by Vice President-elect J.D. Vance ahead of his inauguration on Monday, Fox News has learned.
An announcement will be made at approximately 1 p.m
Vance gave the Senate notice of his anticipated resignation on January 9, which became official the next day. He officially resigned 10 days before President-elect Trump was to be sworn in.
“To the people of Ohio, I extend my profound gratitude for the honor of representing you in the United States Senate. When I was elected to this office, I promised to never forget where I came from, and I made sure to live by that promise every day,” Vance said in a statement.

After Vance's resignation, incoming Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, said in his own statement, “Ohio could not be prouder of J.D. Vance! Once the new senator is sworn in, Republicans will officially have a 53-vote majority.

On Thursday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his selection to replace Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in the Senate. He chose Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody.
Modi cannot be sworn in until Rubio officially resigns, which he is expected to do after his potential confirmation as secretary of state on Monday.
