These are exciting days for Nottingham Forest. The last time they won that many games in a row in the top flight, they were European champions.
There is a growing belief that this current run of results will get them back there, further fueled by the 3-0 win over Wolves on Monday Night Football – their sixth successive Premier League win.
They do it their way, averaging two points per game despite having less possession than any other team in the Premier League. Or should it be because they have less possession of the ball than any other team in the Premier League? Masters of counterattack.
Their first two goals at Molineux were scored on the break by Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood. They only had 39.5 percent of possession and took fewer shots.
Adding all of the above together, can Nottingham Forest do what few expected at the start of the season and bring the Champions League and European football back to the City Ground? Here's what some key voices are saying…
Gibbs-White: We're taking it game by game – but CL would be unbelievable
Nottingham Forest scorer Morgan Gibbs White to Sky Sports:
“It will be absolutely incredible. First and foremost, just for the fans. There will be a few people who will be able to experience it twice, so giving them that opportunity is what we really want to do as a club.”
“We believe in it, but we can't get ahead of ourselves.
“We take every training session, and every opponent as they come. There is a lot of confidence in the group and with the fans.
“There are a lot of high expectations from the fans as well and that is what drives us forward. We continue to take each game individually and see where it takes us.
“Tonight (against Wolverhampton) was difficult. When we had chances, we took advantage of them and that is the difference for us this season – we were decisive when we needed to be. We are good at managing games now so credit to the boys, we deserve the position we are in.”
Nuno will not check the schedule until the end of the season
Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo They remained focused on their next match against Luton in the FA Cup when asked about a potential title race.
“We're playing Luton in the FA Cup at the City Ground, which is huge for us. It's a good opportunity for us. I'm sorry for not answering your direct question, but that's the truth.
“We have to prepare well. The FA Cup is important, it's a good opportunity for us. As I was saying, in terms of the squad, minutes have to be given to everyone, because it's going to be a very long season.”
When asked when he might take a look at the league table, Nuno replied: “I don't know, maybe at the end of the season. Maybe I'll take a look.”
Carragher: Forest have a great chance for the Champions League
Sky Sports Jamie Carragher on Monday Night Football:
“If they beat Liverpool (in their next Premier League game), they will be in the title race and they are the only team to beat Liverpool.
“If the Champions League moves into the top five, they will have a big chance.
He added: “As a Premier League player, we need Nottingham Forest to be in the top five if it comes to the Champions League.
“It's the same for Aston Villa, who a few years ago were back in the Premier League for a few seasons or so. Forest are the same. They give hope to a lot of clubs that are struggling.
He added: “If they can do this, it sends a message to the entire Premier League and the fans that there is hope when sometimes that's all you have.”
