Having played a lot of football over the Christmas period and with Wednesday's Premier League match looming, Eddie Howe will be tempted to make a lot of changes to his starting line-up against Bromley. Fringe players like Lloyd Kelly, Miguel Almiron and William Osula can earn minutes.
Martin Dubravka or Saudi Arabia-linked Odysseus Vlachodimos will start between the sticks given Nick Pope remains sidelined, with the former likely to feature in the Middle East this month. Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles are absent in defence.
Callum Wilson remains in the treatment room with a hamstring problem, and Howe confirmed that Alexander Isak, who has scored 14 goals in his last 15 games, will rest the afternoon.
Newcastle expected lineup against Bromley (4-3-3): Vlachodimus; Trippier, Schar, Kelly, Targett; Wheelock, Longstaff, Miley; Almiron, Osula, Barnes.
Ben Thompson has proven his impact for Bromley during the first half of the season, with the formerly on-loan midfielder signed permanently ahead of the match against Newcastle.
Michael Cech will be Bromley's main source of attacking joy, with the 33-year-old having scored 14 goals this season. He was recently nominated for the League Two Player of the Month award for December.
Bromley's expected lineup against Newcastle (3-4-1-2):smith; Grant, Sowunmi, Reynolds; Imray, Thompson, Arthurs, Odutayo; Whitley Dennis, Czech.
Newcastle are likely to field a squad of second-string players for the visit of Bromley, but that should have little impact on their progress to the fourth round. With home advantage, bags of confidence and some talented figures aiming to prove a point, there should only be one winner on Sunday.
Bromley will fancy their chances of rattling Newcastle's often-changing defense at times and a clinical cheek could be a source of solace to them. But Bromley concede more than one goal per game in League Two and are likely to be punished by Newcastle's fortunes.
