The rules of time travel can be a little tricky depending on the writer Back to the future It's considered a standard for the genre, but usually, whoever ends up in the past shouldn't try to change too much. The butterfly effect that The Simpsons“Treehouse of Horror is brought to life in the best possible way thanks to a malfunctioning toaster, and says that the slightest change can dramatically change the future. Netflix's latest surprise Cutting timegot a lot of mileage by dropping a young 21-year-old girl into the past to prevent her sister from being killed and changing the timeline forever as a result.
Back to 2003
The worst part of Cutting time This is in the brief synopsis, with the understanding that going back 21 years means most of the action takes place in 2003, which explains why your back is hurting now. External banks Star Madison Bailey showed she's great in the teen drama portrayal of this other Netflix hit, but here, she gets to play Lucy, a young girl who enjoys preventing Sweetly Slasher from killing her older sister, Summer. The killer's rampage in 2003 has left the city forever scarred, with the present showing a rundown downtown and everyone feeling distressed and emotionally disconnected from life, clearly following a theatrical trend of “acting depressed over the mere act of breathing.”
She is soon transported back to 2003, thanks to a time machine inside the barn, which will be explained later, and meets her still-living sister (another Netflix star, Jenny and Georgia Antonia Gentry) and her friends Quinn (played by Griffin Gluck, famous for another Netflix series, Lock and key) and Amy (Megan Best, not the Netflix star, but she was the woman he saved Bob Odenkirk On the bus no one). Through a series of events, Lucy tries to keep Summer alive and stop Sweetly Slasher, but in the process, she accidentally causes various deaths, breaking one of the golden rules of time travel in the process.
Short roller coaster of the movie
Cutting time can be compared darkGerman A science fiction time travel serieswhich both end up exploring similar concepts of time travel and prove that sometimes, breaking the genre's common rules can lead to the best. Where the two differ is that dark Filled with amazing performances, multi-dimensional characters, and a twisty plot, while… Cutting time He is the slasher. It's not a knock against it because it's delightfully fun, and everyone understood the task during the shoot, but you have to know what you're getting into.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the campy acting and stupid plot twists cut time, I would say that if you like the time loop Happy death dayMaybe you'll have some blast-to-the-past enjoyment in this movie. The ending raises a lot of questions for time travel fans that could go on and on, which is honestly more than I expected going into the movie. For slasher fans, there are no special kills, but at least you'll never find out who Sweetly Slasher is before the big reveal, or at least I didn't, although I have my theories.
Cutting time It's a short Slasher rollercoaster, clocking in at just 92 minutes, which is something I also appreciated about the film as it didn't overstay its welcome or try to do too much. This is the kind of movie that would have gone straight into the DVD bin at Best Buy in 2003, but in 2024, this is the kind of cheap content that gets thrown out on an almost daily basis. The concept of time travel isn't new, but at least it's fun and never takes itself too seriously.
Cutting time It is currently streaming on Netflix.
